The second EFPT event of the season 2009 took place just three days after the tour stop on Sardinia. Riders competing in both events had to hurry right after the price giving in order to reach the ferry to the mainland, to make it just in time for Greece.
The first round of the 5.000 Euro event brought some tight decisions and surprises. Young, blond and tall German rider Adrian Beholz (F2) kicked out Marten van Ochten (JP/Neilpryde), and Christofer Kalk (Fanatic) is the first Estonian guy who ever made it in round two in an EFPT competition. After the next heats it was clear that the finals will look the same as they did on Sardinia. Steven van Broeckhoven (F2) passed over Andre Paskowski (Fanatic/North) and young gun Davy Scheffers won against French Nicolas Akgazcyan (Starboard/Gun). So it was again the final of two close friends, Steven van Broeckhoven against Davy Scheffers. Steven was a worthy favorite and won the competition with a clear 5-0 decision by the judges. Belgium sailor Steven van Broeckhoven showed during both competitions a powerful and also technical good performance, so without a doubt he is the big hope for the overall title this season.
Despite two tries, there was not sufficient wind to proceed with the double elimination on competition day 2. It was likewise on the third and last day of the Milos Beach Corona Lefkada Open. After some heats the wind got gusty and turned to be insufficient for a fair competition proceeding. Though, the event ended with result of the single elimination from day one.
The first four positions showed the same riders like in Sardinia. Steven van Broeckhoven (F2) wins, Davy Scheffers in second place, Andre Paskowski (Fanatic/North) takes third and Nico Akgazcyan (Starboard/Gun) forth position.
At the pricegiving top 4 riders could delight in some nice trophies and of course the price money. After the ceremony everybody enjoyed a nice Corona at the Milos Beach bar and started to pack everything for the journey to the next EFPT event on Crete, the Palekastro Freestyle at Kouremenos beach. The forecast says some really strong winds for the competition days, so let`s see if the Meltemi can separate the men from the boys.
