At so-called „Young Guns Camps“, emerging windsurfing talents learn the latest manoeuvres. While tourists roast in the sun just a few kilometres away, there’s incomparably more action on Sotavento Beach. The “Young Guns of Freestyle Camp”, an intensive training camp for young windsurfers, gathers ambitious board athletes of all proficiency levels on the wind-haunted island of Fuerteventura. Beginners and upcomers train the waterstart or dare their first forward loops, international talents tweak the latest, breathtaking jump combinations together. All of them are united by their love for beaches, wind and waves and their enthusiasm for the trendy freestyle discipline.

The somewhat different Holiday Camp

Farm holidays? That was before. From June 28^th to July 12^th, water rats are obviously better off on the Canary Islands. Though one won’t be woken up by crowing poultry and cannot nose the healthy air of the countryside – the summer, sun, beach and, above all, wind, will be pleased to receive you.

The daily routine in this sort of training camp kind of looks like this: You roll out of the bed of one of the “Casas del Mar” that are located directly at the beach after having turned the past night into day with windsurfers from all over the world. The hot wind heats up your face and drives the sand across the island. At the surf center, kids and youngsters then receive a fitting board and sail and head towards the water in anticipation of another joyful day.

Along with receiving professional surf lessons – there’s a 24 hours mentoring, partly by real world cup champions – new friendships are made, too, and because of the fact that the participants of such camps come from every corner of the world, foreign language skills are being practised at the same time. Life takes place at the beach, and you surf and hang out with people of your age of the creative freestyle scene. There really are worse options to enjoy the summer.
