What do the surf stars Jason Polakow, Björn Dunkerbeck, Vidar Jensen, Bernd Flessner, Flo Jung and Andi Laufer have in common? They all surf amazingly awesome. Yes, but they have another common interest: In their leisure time they all enjoy playing golf.
They play golf?
It`s hard to imagine those adrenalin junkies how they trot along meadows with a golfbag and balls. People might think that the substitute sports many of the surfers do, when surfing is impossible, are as exciting. Waveriding, kitesurfing or motorcross - Jason Polakow was even Australian champion before he started his windsurfing career. But the truth is: When those guys talk about "bunker" and "backspin" in their leisure time, it is not the bunker where Pozos (surf spot on Gran Canaria) popular wave breaks, but the sand bunker. And with backspin they don`t mean a new freestyle maneuvre, but the spin of the golfball.
Concentration and Consistency
On the second thought, the "booming" sport golf turns out to be the perfect completion to windsurfing. Both sports take place outside in the nature. Golf is also good for improving the powers of concentration and to train the production of results on call. A golf club fits in every car and green grass is also easy to find. Beachgolf and Crossgolf are popular variations where nothing else than a hole, a ball, a club and some creativity are needed to polish up the handicap, together with friends.
