Surfing with World Champion Kauli Seadi

Getting into close contact to international windsurfing stars – that happens each year at the island in the Baltic Sea Fehmarn. For the seventh time already, the SURF Festival Fehmarn is organized by Europe’s largest windsurfing magazine, the “SURF”.

From May 21 to 24, 2009, 15 000 visitors are to be expected on the island again. A lot of stars of the professional competition circus visit Fehmarn every year. This year the reigning wave World Champion Kauli Seadi from Brazil has confirmed his participation, and the two German pros Normen Günzlein and Klaas Voget have already booked their tickets also.

The festival again has plenty to offer. This knows also the mass of visitors, who come to Fehmarn every year during the long weekend over Ascension Day. Tips from the pros are naturalness, as well as an extensive material advice from the exhibitors. The testing of boards, sails and accessories are again in 2009 the core of the event.

The marathon trip around the island

The highlight of this year’s event surely will be the “Race around Fehmarn”. Following the motto “Chase after the record” the three surf-pros Bernd Flessner, Helge Wilkens and Gunnar Asmussen will fight for the minimum time. Their target is, to undercut the record of Björn Dunkerbeck of 2 hours 54 minutes from the year 2007.

Qualification for the Youth Freestyle World Championship at Fehmarn

The Pro Kids Freestyle Trophy stops over at Fehmarn. Who does not want to show his best moves at a World Competition? This year the opportunity is quite large, because the Starboard Pro Kids IFCA Freestyle Worlds take place already one month after the SURF Festival. From June 22 to 27, the freestyle youngsters will compete at Palau, Sardinia (ITA) in the age groups U20/U17/U15 and U13. At Fehmarn it is the official qualification.

All kids who want to show their talents within the four age groups are judged by a prominent jury: Normen Günzlein, Klaas Voget and most probably wave World Champion Kauli Seadi as well as freestyle pioneer Brian Talma form the well chosen jury.

Hot races for everybody

For the second time the Kona Cup starts at Fehmarn. At this slalom race everybody can participate and has the chance to win. That’s the same with the F2 Speed Challenge. Here everybody can experience his own speed rush. The Starboard Serenity Match Race Tour stops over in northern Germany. Fehmarn is the third station after two races in southern and western Germany. Four riders compete against each other. The fastest two get one round further.
