The PWA is the worldwide umbrella organization of professional windsurfers. It maintains the connection between the individual national and international associations and it organizes the PWA World Tour, which is indisputably regarded as the Worldchampionship for the best windsurfers. At the moment the PWA Tour events are taking place at the bestknown surfspots of the world, in the disciplines Wave, Racing (Slalom 42) and Freestyle. In Sylt, at the Tour’s prestige event at the end of each Tour year, where the winners of each discipline are rewarded, the trophy money goes from 30.000 to 100.000 Euro.
The PWA events represent the windsurf sport on the highest international level.

 

Highest Authority of Competition Surfing
The PWA also sets up rules for the individual disciplines and makes up guidelines which are regarded as a main thread. Existing disciplines are examined by the PWA to see if they are suitable for the media and for contests. The regimentation in slalom was renewed by the PWA to allow a wider range of surfers the participation and to reduce the strong reliance on material.

 

The PWA as a Trendsetter
In addition to this, it started new, modern competition ways, like Supercross (2003) and Freestyle (1998) which today are an integral part of the windsurfing scene.

 

Marketing and Support of the Young Generation
A further important job is the worldwide marketing of the sport. This shows, for example, the Tour calender, which comparable with Formula 1 tries to combine events like the Colgate World Cup in Sylt (effective in the media and financially strong) with exotic and prestige-bringing competitions like the Wave tournament in Ibiraquera on the Brazilian coast. In the end the PWA also made it its business to support the young windsurf generation.

Windsurfers from all over the world should be able to contact the PWA about everything that concerns this sport.
