Tips for your windsurf trip

Vacation time is windsurf time! You can certainly find spots and go windsurfing close to your home - our spot guide includes many windsurf spots in local regions. However, when the holidays are right around the corner, many are longing for the faraway. Foreign countries and cultures, warm water and a lot of wind at terrific beaches, enough sun, exquisit food and new people from all over the world are only some of the reasons to take off and discover new windsurf destinations. Below you can get some useful hints for your windsurf vacations.

The right destination

Where should I go? Everyone to his taste. Vacations in the home country, in the neighbouring country or at the other end of the world, you can surf almost everywhere. Our spot guide already offers a great choice of national and international surf spots and surf centers and they are becoming more and more. If you are a beginner, you can see here what your spot should look like. In the section travel destinations, you can always find new recommendations for windsurf spots.

Windsurf vacation by car

Everyone knows the typical stereotype of surfers: an old VW transporter, packed with surfboards at a lonesome beach. If you travel with your own car or RV and surf equipment, Europe is yours. Windsurf vacations in an RV are very popular, and most spots have a campsite nearby. How to fix the equipment on top of the car correctly, the way that nothing gets lost, is shown here.

If you want to be prepared against thievery, you can find fitting locks in specialist shops. If your equipment is new, we suggest a theft insurance. Often, the insurance companies offer attractive extensions (upgradings) to the household insurance, which also include a theft insurance for the car.

Windsurf vacation by plane

Those who prefer taking the plane should take some important decisions before leaving. Is it better to take the own windsurf equipment or to rent it at the spot? If you want to take your own equipment, you should inform the airline company in advance. This might cost extra, prices differ. That is why you should gather information before booking.

You should also wrap your equipment carefully, so it will not be damaged on the plane or on the way to the airport. A simple boardbag is often not enough. An additional cushioning or so-called board bags which are appropriate for planes can be bought in specialist shops. In addition, you should check out before if you can store your surf equipment on the spot. Most surf centers offer the storage of private equipment for a low fee. That way, the complete rig can stay safely in a rig stand while you are out partying.

For those who do not want to travel with bulky luggage or prefer to use complete up to date equipment can find almost everything at most surf centers. The equipment at the surf center is specifically appropriate for the spot, and you can choose from a great number of sails and boards. Many people have found their dream board or their dream sail this way, and have bought the same kind back home.
