A lot of people consider windsurfing an attractive sport, but some shy at making the first step. This could be due to the fact that windsurfing, while indeed looking awesome, is considered a difficult sport. Actually, that is not true, as we demonstrate in the section "maneuvers". The pretendedly expensive and complex equipment may pose an obstacle that leads to the decision to not even try out windsurfing. Many are also afraid of starting with a new sport alone.
The perfect solution for all that perhaps still hesitate to make the first steps on a windsurf board are the beginner's courses of a surf school. Here, you can simply book a taster hour or take an entire beginner's class. With professional guidance, you playfully learn the most important basics to surf independently.
Equipment is provided by the school, and you surf in overseeable, small classes mostly. Here, you quickly find like-minded people und don't have to immediately compete with professionals. Age and gender are also irrelevant because there are courses that are only for girls or also seniors and, of course, children’s courses. Even if you have already visited a beginner's course but are not sure yet if you already want to purchase your own board or not, advanced courses are a great possibility to tackle the next steps with board and sail without much effort.
There are surf schools, surf clubs and water sport centres in the whole world where you can participate in courses and rent equipment. There are 475 surf schools that instruct according to the quality standards of the VDWS (Association of German Aquatic Sports Schools, also operating internationally). The VDWS logo hereby guarantees a high service quality all around windsurfing schools. In our school guide, you can detect the surf school that's closest to you.
