In the past two years, remarkably more people in Germany sailed across at the coastal waters, inland waters and at the holiday beaches than before 2006. Today there are almost two million active windsurfers in Germany, about 300.000 more than in 2006. Current studies of the World of Windsurfing e.V. and the market research institute IfD Allensbach show growth rates in double figures since 2006. Especially within the group of younger people and youths windsurfing got more popular than three to five years ago. But also in all other age groups, the interest in windsurfing grew noticeably. The German Association for Windsurfing and Watersport Schools wrote out app. 14% more beginners licenses between 2007 and 2008.
