This autumn, it’s the third edition of the Bid Days, the standby wave contest, which will take place at the German Baltic Sea. After the “Hohwachter Bucht” near Weißenhaus was the spot for 2007 and 2008, the wave pilots now will move on to find a new place: “Somewhere between Kühlungsborn and Rügen”, reveals Hans Jensen of Supremesurf in Rostock. “We have excellent wave spots here, and we are very happy that the contest will take place in front of our doorstep!” Since Ocotber 7th, right after the end of the World Cup at Sylt, Germany’ best wave sailors are awaiting the autumn storm of the year, to fight exciting competitions for the choice of the best one.
The support of the new title sponsor Supremesurf and the commitment of Jever as presenter of the Big Days, the spectacular happening at the Baltic Sea coast is made possible. Also 15 years old, previous year’s winner Philip Köster, who counts as the greatest wave talent worldwide, has announced his coming again: “The contest already was something very special for me in the last year. Although it was flipping cold, a windsurfing competition, where one is guaranteed good conditions, is utterly unique.”
Philip and all other sailors can collect points for the year’s ranking of the German Windsurf Cup DWC, the premier German tour. Besides him, eleven more sailors, the best of the Big Days 2007 and 2008, are qualified for the 24-heads main fleet. Twelve more the event through the qualification runs at the start of the Big Days event.
Already 60 sailors have registered for the Supremesurf Big Days during the last weeks. “I think it is cool that we go to another spot this time”, says Klaas Voget, best German wave sailor, who recently took the second place at the notorious World Cup Sylt.”The Baltic Sea has a lot of good spots!” For the Big Days as the most important scene contest in Germany, this is a great development!”
