The Windsurfing Disciplines

Windsurfing is not all the same. As in most individual sports, there are different types of windsurfing. Thinking only of traditional sports like gymnastics or track and field athletics, it quickly becomes apparent how diverse the range covered by a single sport can be.

For example in alpine skiing, the scope spreads from descent via slalom to freestyle. This aspect gains even more importance with continually evolving young sports (trend sports). What is only a movement today, tomorrow often already counts as an independent discipline.

Within windsurfing, dissimilar variants which to some extent differ a lot in terms of motion sequences and the surfing equipment used for it have developed early. Unique disciplines which today are carried out in separate ratings and respectively, competitions, have rapidly evolved from these variants.

Waveriding, freestyle, various racing alternatives, combinations like supercross, speed surfing and also indoor surfing are among the most important disciplines in windsurfing. We introduce the respective disciplines in the section backgrounds of our Press Lounge. You can return to the Windsurfing Online Guide by using the "back button" of your browser.
